A leaning fence is a post problem, and a bouncy deck is a joist-span problem. Both get decided in the first day of work and can't be corrected later without taking the thing apart.

We set posts 42 inches deep in concrete with the hole belled at the base, above the frost line only where code allows it. Deck framing gets joist tape over every beam and joist top, flashing at the ledger, and hidden fasteners on composite — the tape alone roughly doubles the life of the framing for about two hundred dollars a deck.

Pool fencing has to satisfy barrier code: minimum height, maximum gaps, and gates that are self-closing and self-latching with the latch above reach height. We build to that whether or not the inspector is coming.
