Maintenance is a different business from construction and we run it as one, with its own crew and its own capped route. We'd rather turn work away than have a property visited by whoever happened to be free that week.

Mowing height matters more than mowing frequency. We cut at three to three and a half inches and sharpen blades weekly — a dull blade tears the leaf instead of cutting it, which is what browns a lawn off two days after it's mown.

Pruning is scheduled by species rather than by season. Cutting a spring-flowering shrub in March removes the flowers it set the previous summer, which is the single most common way a well-maintained garden stops blooming.

What's included

  • Weekly mowing, string trimming and blowing of hard surfaces
  • Bed edging, weeding and seasonal mulch top-ups
  • Spring and autumn clean-ups
  • Shrub and ornamental pruning scheduled by species
  • Fertilisation, over-seeding, aeration and lime against a soil test
  • Irrigation start-up in spring and winterisation in autumn

What it costs

ServiceTypical range

Spring or autumn clean-up$450 – $1,200
Aeration and over-seeding$340 – $700
